Dear Friend,
This year has brought on a devastating wildfire season in California, and the Bobcat Fire in the Angeles National Forest is uncontained and spreading, threatening lives and property in the area. I have spoken with Angeles National Forest Supervisor, Jerry Perez, to discuss the situation and offer my ongoing assistance. He informed me that the Forest Service, Los Angeles County Fire, and other supporting agencies have mobilized several resources and as a result the number of firefighting personnel has increased to 532. More bulldozers were also allocated, and aircraft have begun attacking the blaze. They have also been approved for a “Type 1” team, which is used to fight the most complex fires, meaning we are prepared for the worst.
But I am encouraged that, overnight, the Santa Ana winds blew the fire away from the San Gabriel Valley, toward the north and the northeast. However, that does not mean the risk is over as the winds could continue to shift. And with more high temperatures in the forecast for this weekend, the risk of more spread remains.
As conditions rapidly change and first responders work to contain this fire, I want to provide you with resources to keep you and your loved ones safe, informed, and prepared. The best resource for updates on the Bobcat Fire, evacuations, and shelters is lacounty.gov/emergency. You can also call the Angeles National Forest fire information line at 626-574-5208. There have been no evacuations ordered at this time, but there is an Evacuation Warning currently in effect for residents in the foothill neighborhoods of Duarte, Bradbury, Monrovia, Arcadia, Sierra Madre, Pasadena, and Altadena.
