*SEPT. 15, 2026* — The U.S. Census Bureau today announced that real median household income was $87,460 in 2025, the highest on record dating back to 1967.

The official poverty rate fell 0.5 percentage points to 10.2% in 2025. The following 2025 findings were not statistically different from 2024: the Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM) rate in 2025 was 13.1% and in 2025, 26.7 million people (7.9%) were uninsured for the entire year, according to the 2026 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC).

These findings come from three Census Bureau reports, “Income in the United States: 2025 [ [link removed] ],” “Poverty in the United States: 2025 [ [link removed] ]”, and “Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2025 [ [link removed] ].”

U.S. real median household income was $87,460 in 2025, up 2.6% from the previous year and the highest on record since 1967 when the Census Bureau began tracking this measure.

Median household income is the midpoint where half of households have higher income, and half have lower income.

*Hispanic Poverty Rate Reached Historic Low in 2025 [ [link removed] ]*

The official poverty rate of the U.S. Hispanic population fell to a historic low of 13.9% in 2025.

Estimates from the Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement show that the Hispanic poverty rate fell 1.2 percentage points between 2024 and 2025.

*Medicaid Coverage Declined in 2025 for Second Year in a Row [ [link removed] ]*

Overall Medicaid coverage declined between 2024 and 2025 for the second consecutive year, reflecting shifts in Medicaid policy, funding, eligibility and enrollment processes that began in 2020.

According to the 2021 to 2026 CPS ASEC, Medicaid coverage rates rose from 2020 to 2021, didn’t change significantly from 2021 to 2023 and decreased from 2023 to 2025.

The national official poverty rate of 10.2% was 2.9 percentage points lower than the Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM) rate of 13.1% in 2025.

Estimates from the CPS ASEC show that the SPM, which includes government benefits and deductions, also topped the official rate when using three-year averages.
