The Department of Homeland Security has quietly deployed hundreds of agents to comb through the voter rolls of states across the country — an operation it calls the "Unlawful Voter Initiative." According to the whistleblower's nearly 30-page account, provided to two U.S. senators, agents are ordered to review at least 40 voters a day. That's about 12 minutes to judge a single person's citizenship and voting history before flagging them in a database that can follow them for life.

The whistleblower asserts that the operation is "knowingly sweeping known U.S. citizens in as potentially 'unlawful voters.'"

This is what the endless, evidence-free cry of "voter fraud" was always for. Noncitizen voting is laughably rare; the research has shown that for decades.

The "fraud" was never the point. Building a machine to purge and intimidate real voters was always the point. And DHS didn't deny the operation when asked. It bragged about it.

We cannot un-do what this administration is doing from an email. But we can make sure that when a legitimate voter is wrongly told they can't vote, or is too afraid to try, they are not standing there alone.
