What is the #WhiteHouseSiege?

A beautiful jam. A civic exorcism. A ritual, perfectly timed. A spectacular sayonara for Dear Donald. A rekindling of the embers of American democracy. A howl of moral outrage. And the most beautiful, festive, and effective uprising the Union has seen since the Revolution.
 
What is our strategy, exactly?

Jazz, the gift Black Americans gave to the world — we honor it as our muse. Its structure, improvised. Its soul, profound. And its message, one of togetherness and love.
 
Jazz, said the great drummer Art Blakey, washes away the dust of everyday life. There’s no more urgent moment.

In honor of this revolutionary American musical tradition, we’re calling on every saxophonist, drummer, clarinetist, trumpeter, flutist — any and everyone who can blow a blue note — to grab your instrument, go out, and start playing on every street corner of the Republic.

And with that beautiful noise rising throughout the cities of America, it will be time to move your feet. Bring courage and wits — and your musical chops — to Washington, D.C. There, on September 17th, we commence the #WhiteHouseSiege, a jazz-inspired demonstration of alarm at the desecration of the Union under Trump and his attempts to steal the election.

And it’s not only Washington. In front of federal buildings across the nation, pop-up sieges will arise, raising a fist in solidarity with the #WhiteHouseSiege.

What does it take to resuscitate a sick and dying nation, reawaken its better angels, and reignite the unifying spirit of democracy? A carnival of joy is just the thing.
 
Our offensive, then, has three fronts — pick yours. Whether on the street corners, before the federal buildings, or at the White House, it’s down to all of us — Extinction Rebellion, Black Lives Matter, Code Pink and all activist groups across America — to work together, strike up a riff and electrify the election season for fifty days starting next Thursday.

America doesn't know what it's about to hear.
