Violence in the West Bank is spiraling out of control as armed Israeli settlers beat and attack Palestinians, while torching and looting their homes and schools. Dozens of people have been killed, including young children — and our governments are enabling the horrors.

But the dam is breaking.

The UK government just said it will impose new sanctions banning goods from illegal Israeli settlements and halting deadly arms exports to Israel. Then 11 other countries followed.

But the fight isn’t over: it will take months for this to come into force, and the Trump administration and pro-Israel lobby will unleash wave after wave of pressure against them.

So what we do next is crucial to make sure the UK sticks by its word.

In villages like Qusra, extremist settlers are openly trying to empty the area of its residents. The military frequently raids neighborhoods at night to destroy property, while the Israeli government pours hundreds of millions of dollars into expanding illegal settlements. More than 3,200 Palestinians have been driven from their land this year alone, double the rate of last year.

It’s gotten so bad that a group of retired Israeli generals is sounding the alarm, warning that this violence poses a threat to Israel’s very existence. One thing is clear: so long as our governments allow trade with these illegal settlements and keep sending weapons to the Israeli military, the violence will continue.

So it’s up to us to stop it — and now’s our chance. A staggering 87% of UK Labour Party members want to ban trade with illegal settlements, and 78% want to suspend arms exports. Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden have just joined the UK in saying they will impose sanctions banning trade with Israeli settlements.

But as momentum builds, lobby groups will use every ounce of pressure and influence to stop our governments from acting. And we’ll use polls, ads, and creative, highly visible tactics to keep the issue in the public eye.
