Dear AFGE Activist,

Each year from September 15 – October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month pays tribute to Hispanic culture, community, and contributions today and throughout history. This observance began in 1968 under Lyndon B. Johnson as Hispanic Heritage Week, before being signed into law by Ronald Reagan as a month-long commemoration beginning on September 15th to honor the independence anniversaries of El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Honduras.

This year, AFGE’s Hispanic Coalition (HISCO) continues with the mission to celebrate Hispanic history and culture. By organizing for a stronger voice for Hispanic members within our union, improving working conditions for Hispanic federal and D.C. government workers, and addressing issues that impact Hispanic members, their families, and communities more broadly.

Please join us and learn more about Hispanic culture and better understand the experiences of our Hispanic siblings and hear more about AFGE HISCO.

Watch NVP Dr. Roberson's Happy Hispanic Heritage Month video message here.

WFP is asking our members to send a video supporting AFGE HISCO. Please keep video responses short, no more than a minute, and be sure to be off-duty and out of agency uniform. Identify yourself, your District, and your Local; and give a brief explanation of what Hispanic Heritage Month means to you. Submit here
