1 killed, 1 wounded in Granada Hills shooting

A man was fatally shot and another was wounded early Sunday morning as they were sitting in a parked car in Granada Hills. The shooting occurred about 2 a.m. in the area of Ludlow Street and Yarmouth Avenue. A shooter walked up to the car, fired several shots and fled the scene on foot. One man died at the scene. They rushed the other shooting victim to a hospital, where he had stable vital signs. Both shooting victims were in their 20s. No arrests have been reported.

Pedestrian killed by 2 alleged hit-and-run drivers in San Fernando Valley

Los Angeles police are seeking help in locating a pair of alleged hit-and-run drivers who fatally struck a pedestrian in the San Fernando Valley early Sunday morning. It happened at around 5 a.m., when officers say a black SUV and a silver pickup truck were driving south on Sepulveda Boulevard, just south of Parthenia Street, in the North Hills area, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department. Both vehicles struck the victim, only identified as a man in his 40s, who was crossing Sepulveda westbound outside of a crosswalk, police said. Neither of the drivers stopped to help the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived. "Valley Traffic Division detectives are urging the public to come forward with any information about this fatal hit-and-run," police said. "If you were driving on Sepulveda Boulevard near Parthenia Street on Sunday morning around 5:00 a.m., or witnessed the collision, please contact Valley Traffic Division detectives with any information you may have." LAPD canvasses Universal City Overlook after late‑night shooting

Police are canvassing the Universal City Overlook area after a shooting victim was found in the Hollywood Hills West neighborhood late Sunday night. Officers responded to the 2900 block of La Castana Drive around 11:45 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a shooting victim at the location, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed to KTLA. Video showed a black Ford SUV with a flat tire at the scene, and what appeared to be blood could be seen in the street. The spokesperson said the victim had been transported to a hospital. No information regarding the victim’s injuries or condition was released. Investigators believe the victim drove to the location after being shot in the Universal City Overlook area, less than a mile away. Video from Citizen.com also showed several evidence markers placed in the street in the 7700 block of Mulholland Drive. Police have not released a description of a possible suspect or suspects.

Stabbing suspect shot and killed by LAPD at Hollywood Hills home, LAPD says

Police responding to a reported stabbing in the Hollywood Hills on Saturday night shot and killed a man at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Police officers responded to a report of a man with a knife at a home in the 9300 block of Warbler Avenue around 9:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they located the stabbing victim, who was suffering from heavy bleeding. The victim reportedly directed officers to the armed suspect, who was inside the home. According to the police department, when officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, they gave him commands to drop the knife, but he failed to comply. That's when at least one officer fired shots. The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken into custody. Officers attempted first aid and CPR until paramedics arrived, but the suspect was later pronounced dead. A knife was recovered at the scene. Police did not have an update on the stabbing victim's condition. LAPD said no officers were hurt.

LAPD issues citations, impounds dozens of minibikes in massive 6th Street Bridge takeover bust

A Los Angeles Police Department task force issued citations and impounded dozens of minibikes during a massive street takeover on Sunday, according to the department. Officers with the Street Racing Task Force said it encountered more than 70 people "operating unauthorized motorized minibikes while blocking the [6th Street Bridge], performing donuts and wheelies, riding on the wrong side of the roadway, and weaving in and out of traffic." LAPD said the group was being led by older adults, some of whom were identified as parents of the minor riders. "This dangerous activity places riders, motorists, pedestrians, and other roadway users at risk while disrupting traffic and preventing residents from safely using public streets," LAPD wrote in a press release. "We approached this operation with an abundance of care and caution because these were young people — many who may not fully understand how dangerous these bikes can be when used on active roadways."

Brothers, 1 accused of shooting N.C. officer, face nearly 200 charges from two-month span

Police linked two habitual felon brothers, one accused of shooting and wounding a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer, to a crime spree that led to nearly 200 charges against them, CMPD officials said Friday. Jatarius McCracking, 27, and Dionte McCracking, 28, face 190 charges “across multiple jurisdictions” since July 27, police said in a news release. Police announced additional charges against the brothers, two days after Dionte McCracking was charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon after an hours-long standoff at a south Charlotte apartment complex. Dionte McCracking is accused of shooting the officer in his right shoulder in the 1200 block of Enderly Road, off Freedom Drive northwest of uptown. The officer remains hospitalized in stable condition, police said Friday. The brothers have “extensive criminal histories” over at least a decade, including being convicted of vehicle theft, breaking and entering a vehicle, possession of stolen vehicles and possession of a firearm by a felon, police said. CMPD’s Crime Gun Suppression Team worked with multiple police units and agencies this week to tie the brothers to other crimes, CMPD chief Estella Patterson said.

Crash involving L.A. Fire Department truck sends 7 to hospital including firefighter

A traffic accident in South L.A. involving a Los Angeles Fire Department truck sent seven people to the hospital Sunday afternoon, authorities said. In a statement, the LAFD said three civilian vehicles and one Fire Department vehicle were involved in the crash on Figueroa Street, just north of 120th street, in the Vermont Vista neighborhood. The Fire Department said the hospitalized victims included six civilians and an LAFD member — one of whom had to be extricated from their vehicle. The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the incident. LAPD and LAFD spokespeople said they could not immediately provide additional information. Sunday’s accident comes a few days after another LAFD vehicle crashed on city streets. On Wednesday, an ambulance was involved in a collision with another vehicle that injured three LAFD personnel and one other person. The ambulance was transporting a seriously injured patient at the time of the crash, authorities said.

1 dead, 5 injured after crash at Encino intersection

One person was killed and five others were injured in a two-car crash at an Encino intersection on Saturday. It happened at around 11:20 a.m. at the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Densmore Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters said that six people were hospitalized after the crash. A woman, who hasn't yet been identified, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but police said they were not investigating the incident as a hit-and-run. Los Angeles Department of Transportation officials were called to the scene to assist with traffic control as firefighters called for traffic to be shut down in both directions on Densmore Avenue.

Fire at Silver Lake Target store forces evacuations of apartment units above

Crews are investigating what sparked a fire at a mix-used apartment and commercial building in Silver Lake overnight. The fire was reported around 1 a.m. Monday on Dillon Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters arrived to find smoke pouring from a Target store, which sits on the first level of the building. The flames were contained to the commercial part of the building, but nearly 50 apartment units that sit above the store were evacuated. Everyone made it out safely and no injuries were reported. Details about what started the fire were not immediately available.
