Signs and Symptoms
of Type 1 Diabetes
Can you spot the signs and symptoms of Type 1 diabetes? Timely diagnoses of Type 1 are always crucial, but in light of COVID-19, recognizing the symptoms and seeking medical care might go unprioritized, which is not only dangerous but potentially deadly. NASN is collaborating with Beyond Type 1 to highlight the importance of recognizing the signs and saving lives.

The Future of Mosquito-Borne Illness and Pest Management Consideration

2 PM ET Sept. 22

From viruses to vectors to victims, no one knows what the future will bring, but we can assess the threat and risk of new pathogens nearing our borders.

We will evaluate the conducive conditions that lead to outbreaks, identify potential disease threats and address the role of private industry and public partners in mitigating these risks through IPM-based mosquito control.
Section 504, the ADA, and Ensuring the Protection of K-12 Students

1 PM ET Sept. 23

Since the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Amendments Act of 2008 went into effect in 2010, school districts have struggled to come to grips with conditions that formerly were not considered disabilities, including episodic conditions such as food allergies. As schools navigate new COVID restrictions and meals in the classroom, protections for students with food allergies, celiac disease and related conditions are more critical than ever.

How can you help a school district understand and fulfill its responsibilities to students with allergies that may constitute disabilities? What rights and responsibilities do parents and students have? This webinar will address these issues at the K-12 level.
Navigating Teen Depression and Substance Use as a Family

7 PM ET Sept. 23

The relationship between depression and substance use is complicated, and even teenagers get caught in the tangle. Whether an adolescent turned to substances to self-medicate or use of substances led to developing symptoms of depression, we know that the combination increases the risk for both self-harm and suicide attempts. When a teen you love is dealing with both, what can you do?

In this webinar from Families for Depression Awareness, David Blair LCSW, CACIII, AAMFT, and Jamie Blair Echevarria, LCSW, LMFT, CACIII, cover how caring adults can fully engage in the process of prevention and treatment for adolescent substance use and depression. This program is designed for parents, guardians, family members, youth workers, and any caring adults interested in teen mental health.
