I know there’s a lot of speculation right now about what I’ll decide to do
in 2028. I get asked about it in nearly every interview and at every
event. In some ways, I understand the interest. But I wanted to write to
you today to be direct about what I’m focused on.

Frankly, I could not care less about titles or positions for myself.
That’s not why I got into this work. What matters to me is changing this
country so that it finally works for all of us, and that’s why my focus is
on the decision working people around the country will make in the next 50
days.

On November 3rd, voters will decide control of the House and Senate. They
will decide whether this dangerous administration will spend its final two
years with a check on their power, or whether things could get worse. And
I have to tell you that I am concerned by how some in our party are
talking about this fight.

There is a narrative taking hold in Washington that the Republicans are
already cooked. Yes, the president’s approval rating collapsed. Yes, his
agenda is unpopular. Some believe foolishly that the midterms will take
care of themselves. I’ve heard that from elected officials, pundits, and
operatives. We’ve seen that overconfidence on display in the media.

That kind
of complacency is how we grasp defeat from the jaws of victory. What
happened in the last few days alone should put an end to any cockiness.

* On Sept 4: Elon Musk announced that he’ll spend a small amount of his
near $1 trillion fortune on Republicans all over the country.

* Sept 8: Donald Trump finally authorized his “MAGA Inc” personal super
PAC to unleash its more than $400 million in cash to elect
Republicans.

They’ve been holding onto this cash until the last minute, because they
know most voters make their decisions very close to election day.

One man and one corrupt president now will flood every competitive race in
America with cash. This is what the concentration of wealth and power
looks like in an oligarchy. A television ad in a place like Montana to
decide control of the House of Representatives, paid for by men who do not
care what happens to working families across America.

Now, everything I am seeing on the ground in races all across the country
tells me this could be a major midterm wave for Democrats. But let me be
more precise: it could be a wave if we work for it. Musk and Trump do not
spend this kind of money on races they believe are lost. They spend
because they know they can win and hold the House and Senate. They spend
because they believe Democrats might spend the next eight weeks patting
ourselves on the back instead of organizing.

All of this is why I am not spending this fall thinking about myself. I am
spending it working my butt off to deliver a majority in the House and the
Senate.

Across this country, I have endorsed candidates I believe in. Sam Forstag,
a former smokejumper and union organizer, running for an open House seat
in Montana that Republicans are counting on. Abdul El-Sayed who won his
Senate primary in Michigan against roughly $70 million in spending (and
control of the Senate may well run through his race!). Angie Nixon, a
state representative from Jacksonville, taking on a sitting Republican
senator in Florida without a dime of corporate PAC money.

My entire campaign is mobilizing resources, not just to get me re-elected
or build for a future campaign, but most importantly to win the midterms
and take back the majority so we can make progress on issues like Medicare
for All, universal childcare, a living wage, and more.

I don’t take corporate money. I don’t dial for dollars. Never have. So
every dollar we put into this fight comes from people like YOU who decided
it was worth it. Does that put us at a financial disadvantage compared to
the billionaire class? Of course it does. It’s also the only way I’d ever
do this work.

So I am asking you directly: Will you make a donation to our effort today
that will help us get out the vote, win the midterms, and build for the
future?

The premise of this movement has always been that enough people giving
what they can and standing together is more powerful than one or two
wealthy men giving what they want to control our future.

I didn’t get into this work for myself. I ran in 2018 because I believed
my neighbors deserved representation that cared about them and the lives
they lead. That’s why my focus is on the only decision that matters right
now: the one voters will make in 50 days.
