Hi John,
This year, Swing Left has been working closely with a set of
forward-thinking State Democratic Parties to help strengthen
infrastructure to sustain Democratic wins for years to come. Today, we
want to highlight that work happening in Michigan.
One of those is the Michigan Democratic Party and Coordinated Campaign,
where we are scaling Ground Truth, our volunteer-led deep-canvassing
program that aims to rebuild trust and net votes in critical swing races
across the country.
Statewide organizing in Michigan is especially critical right now.
Michigan is a must-win battleground state with a massive set of
high-stakes races on the ballot this fall. Historically, this state is
extremely competitive—an area political analysts often call a purple
state. In 2024, Donald Trump won Michigan with 49.7% of the vote; Harris,
48.3%.
We need to defend the open Governor’s mansion, flip the state House while
protecting the state Senate majority, win four U.S. House swing seats, and
hold one of the most competitive Senate races in the country following
Democratic Senator Gary Peters' retirement.
The Michigan State Party and Coordinated Campaign play an integral role in
the field program for these races, and resources invested here will help
ensure the data they receive from Ground Truth conversations can be put to
use across the contests we need to win this year and build ground for
2028.
Swing Left volunteers are helping by conducting Ground Truth canvasses on
the ground in Michigan—holding deep, genuine conversations at the doors to
address the issues that matter most to voters and gather insights that are
made available to the Coordinated Campaign, State Party, and candidates
for use in their campaign messaging and strategy.
Working together ensures we’re as efficient as possible in scaling these
efforts—and gives the Michigan Democratic Party additional resources to
cover more ground alongside Swing Left volunteers in Michigan.
