Puget Sound Energy (PSE) Rate Hike Public Hearings ~ Puget Sound Energy (PSE) has once again proposed ANOTHER rate hike to the Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC), and once again blames environmental policies for the price increase. This time, they're requesting an almost 30% increase in electric bills and almost 20% in gas bills! |

People and organizations across WA state are rallying together to oppose this massive rate hike. Help urge the UTC not to approve costly and unnecessary new fossil fuel infrastructure, or allow PSE to reinstate harmful fees and collection practices. PSE keeps delaying adoption of building electrification programs that would improve indoor air quality, reduce emissions that damage our climate, AND cost customers less! Washington’s last coal plant to natural gas-no way. Sign the petition ~ TransAlta’s Centralia plant—Washington’s last coal-fired power plant—is planned to shift its remaining large coal unit to natural gas by late 2028, rather than permanently closing after coal operations end. Puget Sound Energy has a long-term agreement to use the converted unit for up to roughly 700–723 MW of dispatchable capacity through December 31, 2044.
This proposed large gas plant needs a permit from the Southwest Clean Air Agency (SWCAA), and there is an opportunity to send a public comment: SWCAA will hold an online public hearing regarding this permit on October 8, 2026, at6 pm. Washington State Investment Board Push to Divest from Weapons Companies Sept 17 "Since launching the Cut Ties with Genocide campaign, we have succeeded in getting the State Treasurer to cut ties with Caterpillar by dumping over $62 million in Caterpillar corporate bonds. We've organized rank-and-file members in dozens of local unions to demand their pensions get out of genocide, ICE, and fossil fuels. We worked with our elected officials to introduce a bill requiring the WSIB to adopt responsible investing standards, and we'll pursue it again in 2027. Through the fall, we'll keep building pressure, and it starts with your help on September 17th. We need fifty people to sign up for public comment, and as many as possible to be in Olympia in person. We know it can be a lot to take a morning off work, but it also takes all of us to stand up for a different future and to end our complicity in genocide.
