On Monday, dozens of song leaders from across the country convened in New York City to celebrate the release of the Songs in the Key of Resistance (SKOR) album. More than a recording project, this album emerges from a collective of movement artists and cultural organizers committed to using music as a tool for connection, political imagination, and liberation. Each track reflects the deep relationships, histories, and shared commitments that make movement building possible. Songs in the Key of Resistance honors those who came before us and is connected to a wide web of cultural organizers who are working to build a world rooted in justice, dignity, and collective freedom.

Joined by dozens of New Yorkers, they taught songs that inspire courage and solidarity, strengthen our efforts to defend voting rights, stand with immigrant communities, and protect one another through the power of collective song.

Below, you’ll find the closing song of the album “None Of Us Are Free,” written by Arnaé Batson. It invokes the words of Fannie Lou Hamer and sentiments of freedom fighters for centuries. We hope you can use this song and more in your community to build connection, lift your voice, and resist authoritarianism.”

Our partners in Ohio are raising the national alarm of a local crisis with national implications. Right now, Haitian community members in Springfield, Ohio are living in fear and uncertainty after TPS protections were stripped away by the Supreme Court. Hundreds of thousands of immigrant families face the same fear across the country.

The Haitian community of Springfield has four demands:
* End the ankle monitor program NOW.
* ICE out of Springfield.
* Permanent Protected Status for the Haitian community.
* Release all our detained Haitian neighbors, including two pastors, and return them to our community now

On September 19th, people will gather in Springfield for a massive, non-violent demonstration for love and justice.

Not More Money For War

After cutting $1 trillion from Medicaid and food stamps over the next ten years, President Trump and his allies in Congress have proposed $600 billion in new funding for the Pentagon. Meanwhile, millions of Americans are losing food stamps and health insurance as a result of the previous cuts. The Senate has blocked Trump’s Pentagon budget for now, but they need to hear from us.

Will you call our U.S. Senators and Representatives and urge them to oppose Trump’s proposed Pentagon budget increase?

If you can, tell them NO NEW PENTAGON FUNDING!

Sing-In! Songs of Solidarity with Survivors

Join us on Sunday, September 20, from 1-3 PM at Judson Memorial Church for a community Sing-In in preparation for 60 Million Survivors Rising. Together, we will learn and practice songs to raise our voices in solidarity at the September 25 action in New York City, which is part of a nationwide call for justice, accountability, and healing for survivors. At a moment of profound impunity, violence, and abuses of power, 60 Million Survivors Rising seeks to disrupt the systems and cultures that enable sexual violence make visible the collective power of survivors rising together.

No singing experience is necessary. The event is free, and all are welcome!

Jubilee Bible Study

The Freedom Church of the Poor Bible Study group invites you to a special series on understanding and resisting the influences of Christian Nationalism. Faith and community leaders across the nation are encountering the divisive and destructive impact of these forces in the dialy lives of our communities. These forces drive hurtful policies, redirect and eliminate lifesaving resources, and reinforce ideas that lead to hate, supremacy, and violence against our people.

In this series, we will come together to share and better understand how these forces operate within specific communities. We will identify the core theological arguments underpinning Christian Nationalism and discuss and strengthen the theology of liberation emerging from our struggle to resist and care for each other in this moment. And finally, we will take time to present and discuss some of the ways our people are beginning to counter organize in our communities.

The Immorality of Inaction

Join us on Friday, September 18, at the historic Riverside Church in New York City for “Immorality of Inaction: Voicing Truth on Climate.” This gathering will bring people together to give voice to what we know to be true about the catastrophic consequences of allowing the pillage and pollution of the Earth—and what we are called to do about it.

We have the scientific knowledge, technology and financial resources to decrease fossil fuel emissions, restore integrity, protect communities and prevent ecosystem collapse. Yet we don’t. In the face of shifting political winds and corporate profit-seeking, our systems have us ever more locked into a trajectory of self-destruction. The ones that suffer first and worst are the most vulnerable among us. We cannot be silent. Through speech, story and song, we will invigorate and empower a unified moral community voice. Let’s build the public pressure needed to move from a culture of denial and delay to one of decisive action.
