The following email is asking you to donate to The Hechinger Report.  As a nonprofit newsroom, we depend on readers like you to sustain our work. We only run a few campaigns a year, and they are critical to keeping our education coverage free to read and our reporters in your classrooms and on your campuses.

The 2026-27 academic year is in motion and Hechinger reporters are gearing up to visit schools and campuses again, talking to students and the gamut of professionals who support them, from educators and counselors to researchers and families. 

This week, to bolster our reporting capacity for the upcoming year, we’re asking for 50 newsletter readers to make a donation of any size. Your gift — whether it’s $5, $50 or $500 — will power:

• Airfare and gas so reporters can travel to under-reported areas. (In 2025 one story brought us to the base of the Grand Canyon.)

• Public record requests and data analysis from award-winning data and investigative journalists. (We just used our data expertise to build and launch a new tool on college finances.)

• Free, human-written, fact-checked articles that every parent, student and educator can access. (Last year we published 368 stories!)

All the reporting we do this year is thanks to readers who donate to our nonprofit newsroom. (As well as the small number of philanthropies who also support our journalism.) In just 42 seconds (seriously, we timed it), you can help fund our data-driven and nationwide coverage of education by making a donation of any amount.
