The number of persecuted Christians allowed into the United States through the Refugee Resettlement Program has plummeted to zero so far in 2026.
According to a new report from World Relief and Open Doors, “the U.S. has not been a haven to Christians — or any other religious minority. With less than one month remaining in the federal fiscal year, not a single religious minority refugee has been resettled in 2026 from any of the top countries of concern for religious persecution.”
To be clear, World Relief supports the refugee program for all refugees, not just Christians, but this year’s report, the fourth in a series, is choosing to highlight the impact on persecuted Christians in particular.
“The number of Christians facing persecution on account of their faith is at an all time high: 388 million, representing about 14% of Christians around the world,” the report states.
And while the report says that it “is not intended to endorse or disparage a particular administration or political party,” I can’t help but notice that this stiff-arming of persecuted Christians is being done by a president who promised to protect Christians, and many Christians voted for him.
I worked at The Christian Post during most of the Obama administration and wrote often about our refugee programs. Some of the strongest supporters at that time were Christian Right organizations and conservative Christians. These are exactly the people and groups who should speak up now because they are most able to gain the ears of this administration.

Why did the conspiracists win? Sadly, Kirk himself, it must finally be said, contributed not a little to the atmosphere of epistemic madness and institutional mistrust that now suffocates rational thinking on the Right.
Tucker Carlson, after all, was a regular guest at TPUSA events. Andrew Kolvet, a spokesman for TPUSA, relayed a hadith from the recently murdered Kirk: “Honestly, people telling me not to have Tucker makes me want to have Tucker” at the organization’s conferences. After Kirk’s death, Carlson guest-hosted an episode of the show alongside Neff and Kolvet, who would both later be hounded by conspiracy theorists. This was only two days before Carlson blamed “hummus eaters” for the assassination. Already at that point, Carlson had for years been pushing pro-Kremlin narratives and conspiracy theories like the claim that the Pentagon was operating secret bioweapons labs in Ukraine and the idea that Jan. 6 had been a false flag incited by federal agents.
Then, too, Kirk himself was a key promoter of the most significant political conspiracy theory of our generation: the idea that the 2020 election was stolen from President Trump. Unlike the conspiracy involving his own death, the #StoptheSteal nonsense Kirk promoted led to actual political violence and a coup attempt that could have proved catastrophic for US democracy had not a brave few — most notably, then-Vice President Mike Pence — acted against it.
