John,
It's bad enough that President Trump is profiting from the presidency. But it doesn’t end there: his family members are too.
The truth is that we will likely never know the full extent of the Trump family’s efforts to monetize the presidency for personal profit, but we do have some damning information. We know that the family has made hundreds of visits to Trump properties, which require Secret Service protection and funnel taxpayer money to the Trump Organization. We know that Jared Kushner is invested in a company that is benefiting from a Trump administration policy—a policy that Ivanka Trump pushed. We know that Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. appear eager to expand the Trump brand internationally once their father leaves politics. (Just to be clear, all of these are massive conflicts of interest.)
But even in a family full of literally unprecedented corruption, Ivanka Trump has distinguished herself as one of the worst offenders.
First, she went to work in the White House despite the very obvious nepotism and her utter lack of qualifications. Then, she held on to her clothing brand despite joining the government. Her brand started accumulating foreign trademarks around the times she was meeting with government officials from those countries. She faced so much backlash that she closed the brand down in 2018...or so we thought.
CREW just discovered that Ivanka Trump’s brand got a new Canadian trademark in 2019, six months after the brand closed down. And not only that, but her financial disclosures reveal that the trust that holds her brand made up to a million dollars last year. By keeping the new foreign trademarks coming, it looks like Ivanka Trump is keeping the door open to restarting the brand when she leaves the White House.
Read more on CREW’s website, and share this email with your family and friends to remind them that the corruption problem in the Trump administration is bigger than just Donald Trump himself.
Suffice it to say, we have a lot of questions about Ivanka Trump’s brand and her conflicts of interest. We will keep pushing for accountability, not just for President Trump, but also for the members of his family who have joined him in blatant profiteering.
Thank you for standing with us,
