John,
We have some news. Our democracy is facing a full-scale assault right now — whether it’s unprecedented mid-decade gerrymandering or an extreme Supreme Court majority gutting voting rights protections.
We can’t let this stand without putting up a fight.
That’s why we’re proud to announce that the National Democratic Redistricting PAC is supporting a critical ballot initiative in Maryland that allows voters to offset the GOP power grab with a responsive countermeasure.
John, this is a big undertaking: we’ll support the referendum every way we can — mobilizing volunteers, educating voters, and providing financial support before Election Day — can you make a donation today to help fund our efforts in the most important state-level initiatives and elections like this one? This is a key part of our strategy to fight back against Donald Trump and MAGA and ensure the national congressional map is reflective of all the American people — not just MAGA voters in the most gerrymandered states.
If voters pass this referendum this November, it allows the Maryland state legislature to come back next year and pass a new congressional map ahead of the 2028 elections.
Defeating this current wave of racial and partisan gerrymandering requires abandoning outdated playbooks. That’s what this endorsement is about. By working with the American public to level the playing field, we can keep pushing to fulfill the founding promise of a representative democracy for all Americans.
As NDR PAC President John Bisognano put it:
“...[in] contrast to Republicans enacting egregious mid-decade gerrymanders against the will of the people — the people of the Free State will have the opportunity to weigh in on redistricting at the ballot box this November. If Marylanders approve this measure in the fall, state lawmakers must follow their will and enact a map that is responsive to the moment.”
There’s a lot at stake in this midterm election — what happens in November will affect our ability to safeguard democracy for years to come — and there’s no better example than this Maryland ballot initiative. Please rush a donation to help fund this work: [[link removed]]
