Last month, we passed 600 days since the LA Fires, and I reiterated my demand for the Trump administration to submit its request to Congress for full federal disaster relief funding. Survivors of the Eaton and Palisades fires have now faced the longest delay in funding after a natural disaster in modern American history, and they deserve better. I was thrilled that the Bipartisan Federal Disaster Tax Relief Certainty Act passed both the House and Senate, and now President Trump must sign this vital legislation to ensure that survivors don't owe taxes on their settlements. While continuing to advocate for the aid our district needs, I was also lucky enough to help break ground on homes for Eaton fire survivors back in California. I also attended the National Night Out events across the San Gabriel Valley to recognize the first responders and celebrate the $7.4 million in funding I brought back to our district’s police and fire departments, as well as our annual Veterans Forum to listen to veterans and the hardships they face. With the Trump administration making massive cuts to CalFresh and food assistance programs, I attended the National SNAP Week of Action to support my constituents and the food assistance partners who will get us through these devastating cuts. In Congress, I introduced the Protect American Values Act to defund Trump’s “public charge” rule, which punishes legally eligible immigrants for accessing basic services such as healthcare, food assistance, and housing support. Finally, I went on CNN to discuss President Trump’s continued failure to negotiate an end to the war with Iran. We have officially hit six months in this war in the Middle East, and there is no end in sight. I will continue to stand up against Trump and the GOP, who are hurting our country every day this war goes on. Now that summer is over, I am ready to hit the ground running for this final stretch before Election Day. I am still working every day to stop the Trump administration and stand up for you and your families. I look forward to continuing to represent you.
