Have you heard about the Nevada Climate Initiative?

You may have noticed that the color of the sky in Western states has been… interesting, lately. Sadly, because of federal inaction to address climate change (and the occasional gender reveal party), extreme weather events such as wildfires have become increasingly more common and dangerous. We in Nevada are uniquely impacted, as data shows that Las Vegas is THE fastest warming city in the country, with Reno being not far behind. 

But there is hope for states, including Nevada, that are prepared to take aggressive action on climate change to preserve our home for years to come. The Nevada Climate Initiative (NCI) was launched last month by Governor Steve Sisolak to develop goals and policy options for solving climate change and doing our part to reel in harmful carbon emissions to net-zero by 2050. The NCI is currently running a survey to hear from YOU about how climate change is impacting your community and what you’d like to see done about it.

In addition, the NCI is hosting a series of listening sessions, from Sept 14-Oct 6th, focused on a variety of topics related to climate in Nevada from transportation electrification, to buildings and land use, and more! Space for these sessions is limited at 230 participants per session, so don’t wait - sign up here for your preferred session(s) to share your experience and expertise and hear from the state’s leading experts on how Nevada is tackling climate change.
