Let's talk about your grocery bill, because I don't think it's an accident that it keeps climbing.

Every time you check out at the store, you're told the same story: supply chains, avian flu, inflation, forces beyond anyone's control. And sure, some of that is real.

But here's what they don't tell you: While your bill keeps climbing, food company profits keep hitting record highs. Both things are true at the same time, and that is not a coincidence.

I've spent years on this fight. As a subcommittee chairman, I investigated the biggest meat processing companies in the country demanding to know why beef, pork, and chicken prices kept rising for families even as their profits soared. Their own earnings told a different story than the excuses they were giving the public.

Egg prices jumped 14 percent in just the first few weeks of Trump's second term — despite his explicit campaign promise to bring prices down "starting on day one." I wrote directly to the White House and said what needed to be said: this isn't a failed campaign promise. It's a crisis for every family whose dollars don't stretch as far as they used to.

Here's what I've learned from doing this work: when a handful of massive corporations control most of what ends up on your plate, they don't need a conspiracy to raise prices together. They just need to know they can get away with it — and count on you having nowhere else to go.

There is no equal opportunity if the game is rigged — and few things are more rigged, or more personal, than being squeezed every single week just to feed your family. This is exactly why Equal Opportunity Now exists. We are fighting to elect leaders who will take on corporate price-gouging directly — leaders who understand that a grocery bill shouldn't be a monthly test of how much a family can absorb before something breaks.

They're banking on you staying quiet. Don't. Chip in $25 or $50 and help us make them answer for it.

Your grocery bill shouldn't be a corporate profit strategy.

Let's fix that.
