Dear friend,
We need your help to support sentencing reform in D.C. this Thursday!
If you remember, the D.C. Council introduced a "second look" bill
this year that, if passed, would give people who commit a crime before
the age of 25 the opportunity to petition the courts for resentencing
after they have served 15 years.
This important bill has been under attack by the U.S. Attorney's
Office all summer - and now, the U.S. Attorney is hosting a
public hearing on Thursday to discourage public support of the bill.
We need your presence at this hearing to fight back against these
efforts to stall meaningful justice reform for the District and to
show the U.S. Attorney that you support second chances.
Here are the details of the hearing:
When: September 5, 2019, at 6:30 p.m.
Where: 555 4th St. NW, Moot Court Room, Washington, D.C.
Can't make it to the hearing? You can still let your D.C.
council members know that you support sentencing reform. Email your
council member today!
