The Trump administration and extremists in Congress are still pushing a dangerous, fast-tracked budget akin to last year's Big Brutal Bill. This is the Senate's last voting session before Election Day—which means we must speak up now!¹

Republicans used the Budget Reconciliation process to pass historic cuts to health care and food assistance and pump tens of billions more into ICE and Border Patrol.² Now they want another reconciliation package that would prioritize Pentagon spending and money for farmers,³ without the nutrition funding families need to put food on the table.

We are actively whipping votes against this harmful spending bill. CHN and 262 national, state, and local organizations have already told Congress to reject Reconciliation 3.0 or any other vehicle that fails to fund basic needs programs while handing another blank check to the Pentagon.⁴

The hardship is already here. From enactment of last year’s reconciliation bill through May 2026, more than 5 million people lost SNAP food assistance, including roughly 1.2 million children.⁵ Two million children have lost Medicaid or CHIP coverage, with more losses expected this year.⁶ About 5 million fewer people may have ACA marketplace coverage, while millions more face much higher premiums.⁷ And 2.6 million U.S. citizen children lost access to the Child Tax Credit because of rules targeting their parents⁸—while the Trump Administration looks to take the CTC and EITC away from thousands more.⁹

Communities and service providers are being asked to do more with less. States are struggling with chaotic Medicaid work-reporting rules. More than 15 states are already proposing or making cuts to home- and community-based services that help older adults and people with disabilities stay in their homes.¹⁰ Lawfully present immigrants, including seniors who have long been in Medicare, are losing health and food assistance.¹¹

Instead of addressing the harms of the first reconciliation package—the Big Brutal Bill—Reconciliation 3.0 would fast-track more money for the Pentagon and farm interests while leaving nutrition assistance behind. That is not a proposal that feeds people. It is not national security. It is a choice to hand even more money to weapons contractors and politically favored industries while families lose food, coverage, and care.

This window is short. After this work period, the Senate is expected to leave town for the pre-election recess. If Republicans lock in another reconciliation package now, it will mean even less funding for critical human needs later.
