Let me tell you a story that perfectly illustrates John Fetterman’s character. When we were both competing in the Democratic U.S. Senate primary in 2022, I shared a debate stage with him. While Mayor of Braddock, John had chased an unarmed Black man down the street with a firearm — incorrectly believing this man had committed a crime. On the debate stage, I asked him to apologize for this rash, dangerous, and offensive action. John had had years to reflect on this moment. Years to consider what he could’ve done differently. Years to grow and change. But instead, he stood on that debate stage and refused to apologize.
