I want to tell you plainly why I am in this fight, because it is not complicated, and it is not political.

I grew up in Velva, a small North Dakota town where you learn early what work is and what it is worth. I enlisted out of high school, earned a commission in the Marine Corps, and served 25 years in uniform, including a combat deployment to Iraq. The Corps taught me a rule I have never let go of.

Officers eat last. You take care of your people before yourself, always.

When I came home, I did not go into politics. I went to work. I roughnecked on the oil rigs in the Bakken. I ran freight on the railroad. I taught science to kids in a rural school. My whole life has been spent shoulder to shoulder with working people.

So when I look at Washington right now, my blood boils. I see a government taking care of the powerful and the well-connected while everyone else gets handed the bill. I see farmers squeezed, families falling behind, and a congresswoman from my own state who says nothing and votes to let it all continue.

Where I come from, when something is broken and nobody is fixing it, you do not wait for permission. You step up. That is the only reason I am running. Not for a title. Because someone has to look out for the people who have been forgotten, and I am not built to stand by and watch.
