People like me aren’t supposed to run for the United States Senate. That’s the truth.

I’m not a career politician. I didn’t come from a political family. I don’t have a billionaire writing checks to bankroll my campaign or a national party machine clearing the field for me.

I’m a Navy man. A mechanic. A union leader. A guy who worked 33 double shifts on weekends per year to make ends meet at a Kellogg’s plant in Omaha, so my family could have a steady paycheck and a shot at the middle class.

That’s my background. And if you know anything about Washington, you know that’s not what it’s built for.

But here’s what I also learned along the way: When something isn’t working, you don’t wait for someone else to fix it. You step up and do it yourself.

That’s what led me to lead the Kellogg’s strike in 2021.

We weren’t asking for anything unreasonable. We were asking for fairness — for the people doing the work to be treated with the same dignity that they showed in their work, not squeezed for every last drop while executives and shareholders walked away with more.

And when they tried to cut our benefits, we didn’t back down. We organized. We stood together. And we won.

Right now, Washington is full of people who think they’re untouchable. Bought and paid for politicians. Corporate donors. Billionaires who think they get to decide how the rest of us live.

They’re wrong. This campaign is proof of that. And that’s exactly why I’m running for Senate against Republican billionaire Pete Ricketts here in Nebraska.

But I need to be honest — running a people-powered campaign is hard. Every time we make progress, the money on the other side shows up, trying to drown it out.
