** We'd be lucky to 'build back' at all with the Green New Deal crowd in the White House.

------------------------------------------------------------
Real Clear Energy ([link removed]) (9/10/20) column: "Not letting a crisis go to waste, climate change advocates have seized on COVID-19 to press their agenda to decarbonize the American economy. The World Health Organization would have us believe that the pathogen’s emergence is linked to fossil fuels, though Chinese authorities have banned investigators from visiting the source of the virus in Wuhan. The Green New Deal overlaps 'so perfectly' with the coronavirus, says Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. And Larry Fink, CEO of the world’s largest asset manager and likely Treasury Secretary in a Biden administration, views environmental sustainability and COVID-19 as 'one and the same,' representing 'huge physical changes in our lives.' Democrats have seized on this fable. The pandemic demands unprecedented, transformational federal investment in
'resilient, sustainable, and inclusive infrastructure,' their 2020 platform declares... The Green New Deal and Biden’s plan for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 are the last things that a recovering economy needs. Mandating net-zero is the equivalent of imposing multi-trillion dollar tax hikes...Climate activists draw many spurious links between COVID-19 and climate change, but they have one thing in common: zero tolerance. For COVID-19 absolutists, society should be organized around the principle of zero Covid ([link removed]) . For climate absolutists, society should be organized around the principle of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions."

** "Focusing on climate change but ignoring harvests in unhealthy forests is backwards and distracts from solutions that are necessary to prevent more smoky summers."

Heaven forbid someone get Joe Hidin' Biden off the pre-agreed to script...

** National Review ([link removed])
(9/8/20) column: "Democratic Party presidential nominee Joe Biden finally held what was billed as a press conference with journalists the other day — something of rarity in a campaign that has relied predominately on staged question-and-answer sessions. It was a truly embarrassing display of hackery from the media...One assumes that firefighting journos have more important inquiries to ask a candidate whose agenda goes beyond a distaste for his political rival. They could, for example, ask him: During the Democratic Party primaries, you supported a carbon tax and renewable mandates. Even the liberal Tax Policy Center says you will raise taxes on the middle class and small businesses. So how can you claim that you won’t raise taxes on anyone making less than $400,000 when the burden for those programs and hikes are borne by everyone? You have embraced Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal, which proposes banning cars and air travel, as a framework for your energy policy. In addition, on
numerous occasions you said you would ban fracking. Now you say you do not support a fracking ban. What changed your mind, and how will you achieve your promised goal of 'a 100 percent clean energy economy and net-zero emissions no later than 2050' without restricting affordable fossil fuels?"

Big Green, Inc. keeps growing and growing and growing.

** Washington Post ([link removed])
(9/10/20) reports: "A super PAC affiliated with the League of Conservation Voters and related groups is aiming to spend more than $100 million to elect Joe Biden and other Democrats in November, breaking the Washington-based organization’s previous record of $85 million in 2018. The prospect of granting Trump four more years to unwind climate regulations is motivating deep-pocketed Democratic donors to give to Biden. In opening their wallets to green campaign groups, they are signaling their desire for legislation to address rising global temperatures. A similar surge in donations helped Democrats retake the House in 2018, say environmentalists...The LCV Victory Fund runs that donation program with both the NRDC Action Fund PAC, a political arm of the Natural Resources Defense Council, and NextGen America, an advocacy group run by billionaire financier and former presidential candidate Tom Steyer. "

Who's saving California from burning forests? The folks who California politicians put out of business.

** Wall Street Journal ([link removed])
(9/9/20) reports: "High on a ridge in Northern California, 68-year-old Ken Edwards finessed a bulldozer up a rocky slope to uproot a tree while, 10 feet away, a manzanita shrub went up in flames. As the state’s wildfires burn more ferociously and break out simultaneously, stretching state resources thin, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire, is growing increasingly reliant on contractors like Mr. Edwards to perform one of firefighting’s most critical tasks. For five days, Mr. Edwards and his two partners—each with bulldozer skills forged out of hardscrabble rural upbringings rather than formal firefighter training—took turns clearing trees and brush along the ridge to make containment lines to stop flames from reaching homes. For decades, bulldozer operators, many of whom cut their teeth in a bygone logging era, have played a key role in helping the state battle blazes. But as many now near retirement, replacing these veterans’ niche skills is a tall
order, contractors say...“We all used to log,” said 58-year-old Dan La Rue, who has a long gray beard and owns the Caterpillar D5M the trio used. He pulled on fire-retardant clothing then hopped aboard the iron behemoth to take over the next shift: 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. In pitch black, with only the dozer’s lights, Mr. La Rue extended the containment line as flames nipped at his dozer’s steel tracks."

Executives call for huge new taxes on working people, "Things look good from here on top," they insist.

** E&E News ([link removed])
(9/10/20) reports: "A group of CEOs is expressing optimism at the chance of a nationwide carbon pricing policy, though it may depend on some political changes. Executives participating this week in a 'Zoom-in' as part of the CEO Climate Dialogue — discussions with lawmakers that would usually be a fly-in if not for the pandemic — said yesterday they're bullish on a carbon tax or similar policy. 'We need to see some compromise, not just in a bipartisan way, but within each party, where there are ultraconservatives and ultraprogressives who might not see the wisdom of a price on carbon,' Hugh Welsh, president of DSM North America, told reporters in a briefing. 'I also think we need our legislators to not make perfect the enemy of the good. And try to get something down — doesn't have to be complicated — that is meaningful, that is manageable, but that demonstrates some action,' he said. Ralph Izzo, CEO of New Jersey-based electric utility Public Service Enterprise Group Inc., was also
optimistic, but said more change might need to come first."
