Mendota Heights Firefighters Honor 9/11 Heroes at Memorial Stair Climb


This morning, a team of 10 Mendota Heights Fire Department members took part in the inaugural Minnesota 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at TCO Stadium in Eagan. The event marked the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and honored the 343 FDNY firefighters who lost their lives that day.

The course covered about 110 flights of stairs, which is the height of the Twin Towers. Each participant wore a memorial card with the name and photo of one fallen FDNY firefighter. Organizers encouraged participants to take their cards home, learn that firefighter's story and share it with others.

The City thanks our firefighters for representing Mendota Heights and helping carry the legacy of those who were lost.

River to River
River to River Greenway (Valley Park Trail) Update

After a year of improvements, plus repairs following a water main break in late June, work on the River to River Greenway is nearing completion. Tree plantings will follow later this fall when cooler weather arrives.


Join us for a *ribbon cutting on Monday, Sept. 14, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.* to celebrate the completed trail.

Municipal Campus Building Project [ [link removed] ]
Municipal Campus Building Project

At its Sept. 1 meeting, the City Council approved preparation of an optional Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) for the Municipal Campus Building Project. As a result, further work on the project by the City Council, City staff and project consultants is paused until the EAW process is complete.

The City expects the EAW process to take about two to three months and will share information about the project and next steps as the process moves forward. Information will continue to be available on the City of Mendota Heights' Municipal Campus Building Project webpage.

Student Election Judge
Students Wanted: Serve as an Election Judge

The City of Mendota Heights is looking for high school students to serve as student election judges in the state general election on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Student election judges do the same work as other election judges, except for duties that require party balance, since students are not permitted to declare a political party. Training and time served in the polling place are both paid. It is a valuable way for students to learn how elections work and to serve their community.

To qualify, a student must:


* Be at least 16 years old on Election Day
* Be a U.S. citizen (identification may be required)
* Be a resident of Dakota County or an adjoining county
* Be able to read, write and speak English
* Be enrolled in high school or home-schooled
* Have parental approval
* Attend election judge training

A few restrictions apply. Student judges may not work past 10 p.m. They may not serve in the same precinct at the same time as a relative who is also an election judge, and they may not serve if they are the child, stepchild, sibling or stepsibling of a candidate on the ballot, or if they live in the same household as a candidate.

Wentworth Project Notice
Pickleball Court Closure at Wentworth Park

The pickleball courts located inside the hockey rink at Wentworth Park closed Tuesday, Sept. 8, as crews began replacing the hockey rink boards.


Staff anticipates the courts will remain closed for about two more weeks while the work is completed.

While the Wentworth Park courts are closed, players can still enjoy the courts at Marie Park and Friendly Hills Park.

Suicide Prevention Month

September is Suicide Prevention Month, and we’ll be sharing information and resources each week. The theme of Week 2 is “let’s talk about mental health with loved ones.”

Often our first points of contact when we are struggling are our friends, family or colleagues. If someone you know is struggling emotionally or having a hard time, talking with them can be the difference in getting them the help they need.

Talking with a loved one about mental health and suicide can be an uncomfortable and uncertain topic, but it is also one of the best ways to prevent it. We can all take action to have these conversations with someone who may be suicidal. The five action steps from #BeThe1To are a good place to start.
