Twenty-five years after 23 NYPD officers perished in the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, city officials on Wednesday honored hundreds of additional cops who have since died from illnesses related to recovery efforts at the site. PoliceOne Law Enforcement News Man shot in eye at busy North Hollywood intersection Police are investigating a shooting in North Hollywood that left a man with serious injuries Thursday afternoon. Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Division responded to the intersection of Lankershim Boulevard and Vanowen Street just before 4 p.m. on reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, LAPD Officer Jader Chaves confirmed to KTLA. At the scene, police located a man lying near the curb on Vanowen Street who was suffering from a gunshot wound to his left eye. Details remain limited, and it is unclear what led up to the shooting. Investigators said the alleged gunman, described only as an adult male, was last seen fleeing the area on foot. The victim, who has not been identified, was rushed to a hospital in an unknown condition. Footage from the scene posted to the Citizen app showed a heavy police presence, with officers blocking access to Vanowen Street from Lankershim Boulevard while Los Angeles Fire Department personnel treated the victim before transporting him by ambulance to a nearby hospital. KTLA 5 Van Nuys Stabbing Victim Rushed to Hospital A stabbing was under investigation Friday in Van Nuys where one man was injured. The injured victim was transported to the hospital after he was stabbed by his daughter’s boyfriend around 8:02 p.m. Thursday around the 7300 block of Kester Avenue, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said. The victim was unconscious and not breathing, the LAPD said. The suspect, described as a Hispanic man with a tattoo on the left side of his face and wearing glasses, was taken into custody around 12:01 a.m. Friday near Lemona Avenue after fleeing the scene with a knife, according to the LAPD. There was no further information available on the condition of the victim. MyNewsLA Deliberations begin in murder-for-hire trial of rapper Lil Durk A federal grand jury began deliberations Wednesday in the murder-for-hire-trial of Grammy-winning rapper Lil Durk in connection with a deadly shooting near a Los Angeles shopping center. Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, and two others are charged with stalking and killing a man in an ambush near the Beverly Center four years ago. Banks is accused of setting in motion a plan to kill Tyquian Bowman, a rival Atlanta rapper known as Quando Rondo. Prosecutors contend Banks paid for a hit team to travel from Chicago to Los Angeles in August 2022 with the intention of killing Bowman, but the plan went awry when their shots mistakenly killed 24-year-old Saviay'a Robinson, Bowman's cousin, who was seated in a black Escalade with the intended victim. Prosecutors said gunmen fired at least 18 rounds at Bowman's vehicle outside the high-traffic shopping area. Banks, who won a Best Melodic Rap Performance Grammy in 2024 for the hit "All My Life," allegedly ordered, bankrolled and planned the intended murder as revenge after an associate of Bowman's killed a close friend of Banks', Dayvon "King Von" Bennett, in 2020 at an Atlanta nightclub, federal prosecutors said. Banks' attorneys, however, maintain that the 33-year-old Chicago rapper wasn't involved in the planned hit. Instead, they told the jury, it was Banks' former personal assistant Kavon Grant -- who subsequently switched sides and testified for the government -- who set up the intended killing of Bowman to impress his boss. NBC 4 Possible DUI driver in custody after chase ends in San Fernando Valley A possible DUI driver was taken into custody after leading authorities on a half-hour chase from the Westlake area to the San Fernando Valley on Thursday night. NewsChopper4 was above the pursuit that ended in Encino just after 11:30 p.m. Los Angeles Police Department units were behind the black BMW before transitioning into tracking mode following dangerous maneuvers, such as running red lights and nearly running over a pedestrian near MacArthur Park. The driver then got on the 101 Freeway near the Rampart on-ramp, prompting the California Highway Patrol to take over the pursuit. On the freeway, the car was seen zig-zagging at high speeds of almost 100 miles per hour at times. Shortly after several CHP units joined the pursuit on Balboa Avenue, the driver pulled over near Heartland Street and was taken into custody. NBC 4 Car flies off overpass, lands upside down in deadly downtown LA crash A driver was killed after his car flew off an overpass in downtown Los Angeles and landed upside down on the street below. The car crashed through a railing on upper Grand Avenue just after 2:30 a.m. Friday and crashed down onto lower Grand Avenue below, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The fall was estimated to be 40 to 50 feet, which is equivalent to a 3 or 4-story building. The driver, only identified as a 30-year-old man, died at the scene. He was the only person in the car. No other injuries were reported. Details about what led up to the driver crashing through that railing were unclear. ABC 7 New leads emerge in unsolved 2023 killing of man in Southern California Investigators have developed new leads in the 2023 killing of a Southern California man but said they still need the public’s help identifying the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle. Rancho Cucamonga resident Victor Salazar, 41, was found dead Aug. 18, 2023, near 25th and Center streets, according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies who responded to the scene found Salazar lying in the street with a gunshot wound. He was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. More than three years later, the Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the case. “Through continued investigation, homicide detectives developed additional information and believe a full-size sport utility vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban, was involved in the murder,” investigators said in an updated news release. The victim’s photo was released earlier this month in hopes that anyone who recognized him may have information about his whereabouts before his killing or other details related to the case. KTLA 5 California mom accused of embezzling $400K from high school football team An Orange County woman was arrested Thursday on federal charges for allegedly stealing more than $400,000 from a non-profit organization established to support the Aliso Niguel High School football team. Julie Hanway Molina, 56, who served as treasurer for the group, was taken into custody at her home and charged with four counts of wire fraud. A federal grand jury returned an indictment on September 2 charging Hanway Molina with four counts of wire fraud. Federal prosecutors state that between 2023 and November 2025, Molina served as treasurer for the Aliso Niguel High School football team support organization and diverted $411,761 from the group’s Laguna Hills bank account for personal expenses. Key transactions included a June 2023 wire transfer of approximately $131,523 through Federal Reserve facilities in New Jersey and Texas to an account in Santa Ana to pay off a delinquent mortgage balance on her home, as well as payments toward credit card bills. FOX 11 BWC: 2 Fla. deputies wounded in SWAT response as suspect fires through door Two Hernando County sheriff’s deputies were shot while serving a search warrant related to an illegal narcotics investigation, video released by the agency shows. Deputies and SWAT personnel arrived at a residence around on Sept. 10 and made multiple announcements identifying themselves as law enforcement before attempting to enter. Marked patrol vehicles had their emergency lights activated and a SWAT armored vehicle was positioned outside. Body camera video shows officers approaching the front door and using a loudspeaker to issue orders to surrender. When the suspect did not exit, officers began attempting to break through the door. As an officer broke the glass, gunshots rang out. Officers quickly backed away, as one officer can be heard shouting “I’m hit!” Two deputies were struck during the response. Both deputies were taken to a hospital and later released. They are expected to recover. The suspect was taken into custody and faces 12 counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, two counts of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and charges related to firearm and ammunition possession, shooting into an occupied vehicle and resisting arrest with violence. The sheriff’s office said additional narcotics charges are expected as the investigation continues.
