Green Tie Milwaukee, endorsements, Election Day just 54 days away

All summer long and all across Wisconsin, we’ve seen momentum building among people who are demanding a new wave of leadership. With Election Day just 54 days away, Wisconsin Conservation Voters is hyper-focused on winning a pro-conservation trifecta that actually reflects Wisconsinites’ values.

Because of the victories we’ve forged together and relentless organizing, we have a clear path to finally electing a pro-conservation, pro-democracy governor, as well as legislative majorities that will protect our environment, regulate data centers, safeguard our drinking water, and defend our freedom to vote.

Over the past month, we have been laying the groundwork for victory in November by organizing and endorsing proven leaders who are ready to meet this moment and deliver real results for working families, protect local communities, and tackle critical environmental and public health challenges.

For the first time in nearly two decades, we have a critical opportunity to win a cleaner, safer, and affordable future for all.

Wisconsin Conservation Voters endorses David Crowley for Governor

Wisconsin Conservation Voters announced its endorsement of Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley for Governor on Aug. 17.

The momentum across Wisconsin is clear – voters are ready for leaders who will hold corporate polluters accountable, stand up to corporate greed, regulate data centers, and protect our natural resources. David Crowley has proven he understands the struggles of Wisconsin families. From cutting Milwaukee County’s carbon footprint in half to taking a firm stand to regulate data centers and stand up to Big Tech, David Crowley is the leader we need to protect our environment and keep energy bills affordable.

Crowley has committed to holding Big Tech and electric utilities accountable by banning non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) around data centers, enforcing "Bring Your Own Clean Energy" mandates for these massive facilities, making sure data centers pay their full share in energy and water costs, and holding corporate polluters responsible for environmental damage and mitigation.

Ratepayers tells We Energies to take a hike

On Monday, Aug. 24, we organized a press conference with our coalition allies outside the We Energies office in Milwaukee to demand that Wisconsinites are not hit with yet another unaffordable rate increase. The press conference was featured on CBS 58’s evening news [[link removed]] , the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel [[link removed]] , Telemundo Wisconsin [[link removed]] , and 620 WTMJ Radio [[link removed]] .

We Energies, which serves ratepayers in southeast Wisconsin and the Fox Valley, is attempting to raise rates on Wisconsinites by another 14 percent. Wisconsin Conservation Voters demanded that We Energies freeze rates and stop fueling the affordability crisis with its endless corporate greed.

We were thrilled to be joined by Anne O'Connor, Milwaukee County Supervisor, District 1; Laura Lane, Faith in Place; Julia Alberth, Healthy Climate Wisconsin; and Yusuf Adama, Walnut Way.

Petition drop tells Rep. Van Orden: our bills are too damn high

On Aug. 26, our western Wisconsin team delivered signatures to Rep. Derrick Van Orden (CD-3) at his office in La Crosse to demand he fight for affordability for all Wisconsinites.

We have been organizing all summer to hold Rep. Van Orden accountable for spending his time in Congress defending the interests of corporate polluters and billionaires while selling out his constituents who are struggling with skyrocketing energy and housing bills. The people of Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District deserve better from their representative.

Wisconsin Conservation Voters showed Rep. Van Orden how out of step he is with his constituents, and delivered a clear message: our bills are too damn high.

Community Change-Maker Awards honors Wisconsin Conservation Voices

On Sept. 17, Community Shares of Wisconsin will celebrate local leaders and organizations who are advancing social and environmental justice in our community. Join WCV and CSW for the annual Community Change-Maker Awards at The East Side Club. Wisconsin Conservation Voices, our sister organization, is honored to be receiving the Collaboration Award in partnership with River Alliance of Wisconsin and Midwest Environmental Advocates, for our statewide collaboration on PFAS remediation. The Community Shares of Wisconsin Collaboration Award honors nonprofits that have demonstrated the power of collaboration with their coordinated efforts to lead impactful social justice change within our community.

In Memoriam: Chris Zapf

On Aug. 24, the conservation community lost a cherished champion.

“Christine Marie Zapf, a shining star of energy and love, a loving wife, and a dear friend to so many, passed away August 24, 2026. She was 68. [...] She was happiest in nature. Chris was an avid and accomplished cyclist, hiker, cross-country skier, backpacker and sea kayaker, and she would still rather sleep on the ground in a tent than almost anywhere else. She loved sunsets and birds and forests full of old trees. She loved wandering off to see what was over there. She wore a straw hat, she brought other people along and she had a gift for making an ordinary outing feel like an adventure.”

Chris wrote hundreds of postcards for WCV, attended multiple Conservation Lobby Days, and supported our work for close to 20 years. She will be dearly missed.
