Governor Gavin Newsom just signed AB 2624 –the so-called "Stop Nick Shirley Act"-- into law.

The law expands government power to silence citizens and independent journalists who post videos or information exposing waste, fraud, and abuse involving taxpayer dollars. This is not about protecting people from threats. It is a deliberate assault on free speech and investigative journalism.

Democrats framed it as "privacy." In reality, it creates a legal weapon to demand takedowns, sue, and intimidate anyone who documents problems in plain sight. Republicans and free-speech advocates across California are slamming it, warning it shuts down scrutiny of how public money is spent and sets up a major First Amendment fight.

We cannot accept this.
