We know there’s a strong divide in the state legislature. But a bill that has earned unanimous support in both the State House and a State Senate committee shouldn’t be sitting on the sidelines. Yet that’s exactly what’s happening with HB 1261, which would ban PFAS in firefighting foam.
PFAS are man-made chemicals that remain in our water and soil forever and are linked to severe health concerns, including cancer, fertility issues, and developmental effects in children.
PFAS is everywhere. These “forever chemicals” have been used in everything from stain-resistant clothing and carpets to food packaging, industrial products, and firefighting foam.
But in some Pennsylvania communities, a major source of PFAS contamination has been firefighting foam used for decades at military bases and fire-training sites – and that’s why passing HB 1261 to ban PFAS in firefighting foam is so important.
The State House passed it UNANIMOUSLY, with every Democrat and Republican in support. Earlier this year, the bill passed out of the Senate Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee, again with unanimous support.
But now Senate leaders are refusing to bring up the bill for a vote.
This is an easy win if we can generate enough public support to get it voted on. Can you urge your Senator to bring HB 1261 up for a vote to protect our communities, first responders, and environment from the harmful effects of PFAS pollution?
