For most of our history, the Electoral College was uncontroversial. It was
understood to be a safeguard for free and representative government.
But today, dozens of states have joined together to undermine this key
constitutional protection.
The push to "move beyond" the Constitution stems from the failure of too many
schools to teach American civics properly. Many citizens today don't fully
understand the importance of the Constitution and the Electoral College in
preserving liberty.
To counter this, Hillsdale College has expanded its educational mission on
