By now, you’ve heard about what MAGA did to Black voters in Louisiana.
In April, the Supreme Court restored Jim Crow style redistricting. In response, our MAGA governor declared a state of emergency to cancel our election, tossed out tens of thousands of ballots, and rammed through a brand-new map that erased one of our majority-Black districts — the seat held by my colleague and dear friend Congressman Cleo Fields (D-LA).
And now, they’re coming after my seat too. MAGA activists have challenged the very map their own legislature had passed, claiming the map that eliminated Cleo’s seat didn’t go far enough. They're trying to wipe out all Black representation in Louisiana.
But there is hope. Black voters, Democrats, and Louisianans across the state are pissed. They see what MAGA is trying to do, and they’re turning out in historic numbers at the polls to get their payback.
In our May 16 election, Dems turned out in record numbers and delivered a blow that blindsided MAGA, sinking every single one of Governor Landry's amendments by 20 points or more. And now my good friend and Democratic Nominee for US Senate Jamie Davis is statistically TIED with MAGA candidate Julia Letlow in the latest poll on the race.
The tables have completely flipped. Instead of wiping out black representation in Louisiana, we’re on the cusp of electing the state’s first black Senator since Reconstruction.
