Twenty-five years ago today, our country changed forever.

On September 11, 2001, I was at the U.S. Capitol. I remember watching the second plane hit the World Trade Center and realizing America was under attack. Soon after, I walked back toward my office and saw an enormous plume of smoke rising from the direction of the Pentagon.

Later that morning we learned that United Flight 93 had also been hijacked by terrorists and was headed toward Washington – with the Capitol likely its target. The 40 passengers and crew fought back, sacrificing their lives and saving countless others. As someone who was at the Capitol that morning, I have always felt a personal debt of gratitude to them.

New Jersey lost 674 people that day. And 25 years later, responders and survivors are still getting sick from 9/11-related illnesses.

That's why I fought to create the World Trade Center Health Program and why I'll keep fighting to protect it. "Never forget" means keeping our promise to those who bravely put their lives on the line to save their fellow Americans that horrible Tuesday morning.

Thanks to Trump, we're paying $4 billion to get LESS clean energy.

Yes, you read that right.

At a time when New Jerseyans are struggling with high electric bills, the Trump Administration is spending nearly $4 billion of your tax dollars to pay companies to walk away from clean energy projects that would have created good-paying jobs, produced more energy, and helped reduce pollution.

This week, I joined Ironworkers Local 399, Carpenters, LIUNA, IBEW, the New Jersey AFL-CIO, and environmental leaders to call out what these decisions mean for New Jersey.

We need more energy on the grid to meet growing demand and bring down costs, not billions of taxpayer dollars spent to stop new energy projects from moving forward.

It makes absolutely no sense.

Your old battery shouldn't be able to start a deadly fire.

Lithium-ion batteries power everything from phones and laptops to e-bikes and power tools. But when they're thrown in the trash or recycling with other materials, they can cause dangerous fires.

This week, I joined Congressman Donald Norcross in Camden to tour a metal recycling facility, which has experienced multiple lithium-ion battery fires, and hear firsthand about the problem.

As the top Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, I'm looking at what we can do at the federal level to help. These fires put entire neighborhoods at risk. And we need to prevent them before they start.
