Last night, in Dallas, Donald Trump asked a stadium full of Americans to raise their right hands and take a Pledge of Allegiance.

Not to the flag. Not to the country. To him.

We’ve known this for a long time, but it reinforces who Donald Trump is and what he cares about: himself and winning. He does not see the presidency as a job he holds on loan from the people. He sees it as his, by right, forever.

A man who believes that will not accept an election that takes it away from him. He has already told us so — refusing to rule out sending ICE and federal agents to the polls, promising to do "anything necessary," while his allies talk openly about agents "surrounding" polling places to frighten voters away.

A man who wants to be king, and will do whatever he can to keep his crown, including making the people most likely to vote against him too afraid to show up.

Which is exactly why our work matters so much right now.
