Dear friends,
As Rosh Hashana approaches, I find myself reflecting more deeply than usual on the year behind us and the year ahead.
As we listen to the sound of the shofar, there is a wailing, a loneliness, almost a cry that each of us feel. Yet we are not alone — we stand together with the people of Israel and all the other persecuted religious minorities.
This is the first Rosh Hashana in three years that we welcome without a single hostage still held in Gaza. That alone is worth pausing on — the relief of families reunited, the quiet grace of finally being able to grieve and to heal. It doesn't erase the challenges Israel still faces, and there is still so much work ahead, but it is a real and hard-won blessing, and I don't take it for granted.
This has been a year of real progress for EMET. Our legislative team now conducts more than 30 Capitol Hill meetings every month, educating Members of Congress and staff on more than twenty active bipartisan bills — from the Abraham Accords Expansion Act and U.S.-Israel Defense Partnership Act to the Enhanced Iran Sanctions Act, the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act, and the Antisemitism Awareness Act. We have weekly webinars with some of the most outstanding diplomats, journalists, and foreign policy analysts. Our reach extended well beyond Washington too: a panel I moderated at the JNS International Policy Conference has now been viewed an estimated one million times online.
As we look ahead, we remain committed to educating our policymakers, and to being the steady, fact-based, pro-Israel voice that Congress needs now more than ever.
As we enter 5787, my hope for each of you and your families is simple: peace that feels less fragile, prosperity that lets you breathe a little easier, and health that carries you and the people you love through the year ahead.
Wishing you and your loved ones a shana tovah u'metukah — a good and sweet new year.
With warmth and gratitude,
Sarah N. Stern
