A quarter century has passed since September 11, 2001, but the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call, and the day that forever changed America must never fade from our memory.
25 Years Later, America Remembers
Twenty-five years ago today, America awoke to unimaginable evil.
For those of us old enough to remember September 11, 2001, the details of that day remain ingrained in our memories — where we were when we first heard the news, who we were with, and the disbelief as we watched the horror unfold. A quarter century has passed, but for millions of Americans, the memories of that morning have never faded.
Today, we remember the 2,977 innocent lives taken. We remember the firefighters, police officers, first responders and ordinary Americans who ran toward danger. We remember the passengers of Flight 93 who fought back. And we remember the families who have carried the weight of that day for 25 years.
But remembrance cannot end with those who lived through it.
A generation of Americans has now grown up with no memory of September 11. It is our responsibility to tell them what happened. To teach them the stories of the fallen. To tell them about the heroes who ran into burning buildings, the passengers who fought back and the Americans who answered the call to serve in the years that followed.
We must also remember what came next: Americans stood together. We flew our flags. We prayed together. We mourned together. And in one of our darkest hours, we reminded the world that America could be wounded, but it would not be broken.
Twenty-five years later, “Never Forget” must remain more than a phrase. It is a promise.
Remember September 11. Tell its story. Teach it to our children. Honor its heroes. Say the names of those we lost. And never allow the passage of time to dim the memory of that day.
May God bless the families of the fallen, may God bless those who answered the call to serve, and may God always bless the United States of America.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
