John, Today, we pause and remember. Twenty-five years ago, nearly 3,000 Americans went to work, boarded planes, and started their day like any other—and never came home. Firefighters and police officers ran toward danger while others ran for their lives. We remember the towers falling. We remember the Pentagon being hit. We remember the field in Pennsylvania, where Flight 93 crashed. We remember and we'll never forget. |
In the days that followed, something remarkable happened. Americans of every background stood shoulder to shoulder. American flags flew from every porch, lining streets and cul-de-sacs across our country. Strangers became family. For a moment, we were simply one nation, under God, united in grief and resolve. That spirit is worth remembering. It's a reminder of who we are as a nation when it matters most, and who we can still be for our fellow Americans. To the families who lost loved ones, to the survivors who carry the memory, and to the veterans and first responders who answered the call in the years following 9/11—Illinois stands with you today and will always remember. We will never forget.
My humble regards, |
