News from Representative Clarke

September 10, 2020

To the Good People of New York’s Ninth Congressional District,

While we may not have been able to celebrate this year’s West Indian American Day Parade by lining the sides of Eastern Parkway enjoying the sights and sounds of our beloved Caribbean culture on display, we were still able to experience the thrill of Carnival virtually this year. I thank all of you who complied with the social distancing regulations and refrained from having large gatherings.

Additionally, as we reach the final month of Census data collection, it s crucial that you and your family are counted, so that our district can get the resources it needs. My team and I have partnered with the COJO of Flatbush, Marine Park JCC, and Crown Heights JCC over the last few weeks to ensure that YOU can get counted. Further information is listed below:

COJO of Flatbush - 1523 Avenue M, Brooklyn, NY 11230

Hours: Thursday, August 20 - September 24, 2020, from 10:00 AM - 11:00 PM

Marine Park JCC - 1102 Coney Island Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11230

Hours: Thursday, August 20 - September 24, 2020, from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Crown Heights JCC: 387 Kingston Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11225

Hours: Friday, August 21 - September 25, 2020, from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

However, if possible, you should complete the Census at home, either by logging on to my2020census.gov or by calling (844) 330-2020.

We should continue to follow best practices for preventing the spread of the coronavirus, including maintaining six feet of distance in public, wearing a protective face covering around others, and frequent handwashing. Thank you all for your work to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Your actions are saving lives.

Regards,

Yvette D. Clarke

LEGISLATIVE HIGHLIGHTS:

Wednesday, September 2, 2020

  • Joined by Congresswomen Nydia Velazquez and Ilhan Omar, I authored a letter to the Department of Homeland Security, urging them to extend the designation of South Sudan as a Temporary Protected Status (TPS) country. Given the current state of armed conflict in the country, it is crucial that South Sudanese nationals be allowed to remain in the United States through extension of TPS. See more about my letter here.

Americans from all walks of life are struggling as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The HEROES Act passed by House Democrats would provide funding to retain public employees, cancel rent, and provide direct payments to families. Unfortunately, this critical legislation is being stalled in the Republican-controlled Senate.

Let’s make sure everyone gets counted this year! Make sure you and your family take the Census this year so that our community gets its share of the resources being allocated.
