Celebrating 20 years of SAAF

SAAF has been a consistent resource for the global abortion rights movement for 20 years now. Our latest annual report ([link removed]) published last month shows the achievements of our grantee partners last year. In 2025 we provided funding to a total of 106 organisations all around the world.

We hope to soon be able to launch a new round of funding to welcome new partners, but for now we are sharing opportunities for those working on feminist and social justice issues below.

Current funding opportunities

* Abortion Conversation Projects ([link removed]) is welcoming applications for the Peg Johnson Innovation Fund, to support "bold ideas that expand how people experience, understand, and make meaning of abortion." Deadline to apply: 15th September 2026

* The Equality Fund ([link removed]) is funding feminist collaboration to "advance gender equality and social justice". Those in 'ODA recipient countries' ([link removed]) can apply. Deadline to apply: 16th September 2026

* Doria Feminist Fund ([link removed]) "welcomes applications from feminist activists and feminist movement builders across the Middle East and North Africa". They prioritise groups led by women and trans people and accept applications in English, French and Arabic. Deadline to apply: 19th October 2026

Urgent Action Fund ([link removed]) provides small, short term grants to support feminist activists around the world. They offer Security Grants and Opportunity Grants (both up to $8000) and accept applications on a rolling basis.

Grantee partner spotlight: URHA in Kenya

SAAF has been supporting USAWA Reproductive Health Association (URHA) since 2025. They run a small, youth-friendly clinic in an informal settlement area just on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya.

Dr Jolly Mukangu set up the clinic because she wanted to make sure that everyone could access affordable reproductive health services, especially young people, queer and trans people, and those on a low-income - many of whom are turned away from other services.

Dr Jolly is a proud provider of safe abortion and has a huge following on TikTok where she is able to reach young people with messages on safer sex and pregnancy options.

"We are seeing a lot of problems caused by doctors stigmatizing gay and transgender people who are trying to access healthcare. The stigma and abuse means that queer communities no longer seek care when they need it. So, I make an effort to welcome these patients - to provide affordable access to sexual health care and HIV medications - so that Usawa can act as a trusted drop-in centre."
