A Note From the Desk of Congresswoman Letlow

One of my goals has always been to help transform Louisiana into a place where our children have real opportunities right here at home and communities have the resources to succeed.

This year, I’ve seen firsthand the incredible growth happening in Louisiana as major companies like SpaceX invest in our state, creating new jobs for our communities. Through my seat on the House Appropriations Committee, I’ve worked to build on that momentum by bringing your tax dollars back home to fund essential projects across the Fifth District.

As we look toward Louisiana’s future, we also remember the moments that have shaped our state. This year marked the 21st anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, a tragedy that forever changed the lives of countless Louisiana families. I remain deeply grateful for the first responders and community members who stepped up for one another during such a difficult time, and I am proud of the incredible resilience Louisianans have shown.

That same sense of community is still at the heart of who we are today. Nothing makes me more  proud than seeing Louisianans come together and celebrate the traditions that make our state home. That spirit was on full display during LSU’s home opener, when LA-05 native Lainey Wilson joined College GameDay and helped show the nation a little Louisiana pride.

Launching Louisiana's Economy and Creating Jobs

Recently, I was honored to attend SpaceX’s official announcement of Starbase Louisiana. SpaceX is the latest major company to put down roots in our state, with plans to invest $100 billion in a new facility and create more than 3,000 high-paying jobs. The facility is expected to become SpaceX’s largest launch site, and is a credit to Governor Landry’s efforts to recruit good-paying jobs to our state.

SpaceX’s massive presence in Vermilion Parish will be another shot in the arm for our economy and lay the foundation for Louisiana to become a national leader in space innovation. Welcome to the Bayou!

Reflecting on Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana 21 years ago, leaving behind unimaginable loss and forever changing our state. As we remember the lives lost, I remain grateful for the first responders and countless Louisianans who came together during one of the darkest times in our state’s history.

Hurricane Katrina remains a powerful reminder of our responsibility to strengthen flood protection and ensure our communities are prepared for future storms. Louisiana has always been resilient, and I remain committed to fighting for the investments and resources that will protect our communities. 

Sharing Tradition with Lainey Wilson 

Our people and traditions are what make Louisiana special, and this past weekend, College Gameday gave us the opportunity to share that spirit with the country. I was thrilled to see Northeast Louisiana’s own Lainey Wilson join the LSU community in showing off some Louisiana pride, including the perfect blend of country music and college football! Lainey is an amazing musician who proudly represents her hometown of Baskin and Louisiana’s Fifth Congressional District on the national stage.

Bringing Your Tax Dollars Home

I am honored to serve on the House Appropriations Committee, where I fight to bring your hard-earned tax dollars back home and put them to work for our communities. In my time representing Louisiana’s Fifth District, I’ve secured nearly $200 million to invest in essential services like road repairs and flood protection. This includes regions like the Florida Parishes, where I have secured more than $8 million to strengthen infrastructure and healthcare in places like Hammond and Bogalusa.

These investments include a new helipad for Our Lady of the Angels Hospital in Bogalusa, an emergency communications tower in Washington Parish, and an emergency operations center in Livingston Parish. In Tangipahoa Parish, I also secured funding for airport improvements to support economic development, along with water and sewer upgrades in Amite to prepare for continued growth. 

I will always be a strong voice for our rural communities in Washington and fight to bring your tax dollars home. 

Promoting Conservative Values in Washington

I am beyond grateful to have received the Friend of the Family Award from the Faith & Freedom Coalition, recognizing my commitment to defending conservative values in Congress. 

Louisiana deserves a strong voice in Washington that puts our families and communities first. Your priorities guide the decisions I make, and your voices are behind every vote I cast. I will continue listening to our communities, fighting for our shared values, and working every day to deliver results for Louisiana families.

Celebrating New Opportunities in LA-05

Supporting our communities is at  the heart of everything I do, and that includes celebrating the success of our local businesses and non-profit organizations. My office frequently attends events to celebrate new growth opportunities in the Fifth District, because good representation starts with showing up. Recently, our team joined CommuniHealth to break ground on this community health center’s new facility in Monroe, which will create a more centralized hub for quality health care in Northeast Louisiana. CommuniHealth was originally located in Bastrop, and now will offer increased services and strengthen health care in our region.
