"I'm not a scientist, so I'm not sure what causes climate change."

This is one of the myths that climate deniers like to tout to evade responsibility for taking action. You don't need to be a scientist to see the effects of climate change—severe hurricanes, disease spread, destructive wildfires, Arctic heatwaves—and those are just a few of the things we’ve seen in the past few months alone.

In fact, 97% of scientists are in agreement that climate change is caused by humans. It's pretty hard to argue with science, but with the climate crisis, as with COVID-19, we are seeing that denial from our elected leaders. The people that are supposed to represent the best interests of their constituents are committed not to facts, but to falsehoods.

Senator Todd Young once said, "We're often told there's a consensus among scientists, and I've come to discover... that's not necessarily the case..." I'd say that 97% constitutes a consensus, and spreading these types of lies is not just negligent, it's actively harmful.

The stakes are too high for this type of willful ignorance, and we are fed up. Lives are on the line, people are dying, and our planet is suffering.
