Welcome to Thursday, September 10th, brokens and wholes...

President Donald Trump told veteran Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward on March 19th that he publicly minimized the danger of the coronavirus:

Trump acknowledged to Woodward in an interview dated February 7 that the virus “goes through air" and is “more deadly than even your strenuous flus."

The above remarks stand in contrast with public comments Trump made at the time. Three days after the above interview, for instance, Trump said:

"Looks like, by April, you know, in theory, when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away. I hope that's true."

Trump also told Woodward in March of “startling facts” about the COVID-19 virus, including that it's “not just old people" catching it—even though the president claimed as recently as August that young people are “immune” to the virus.

** Senate Voting on GOP Coronavirus Bill
------------------------------------------------------------

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) scheduled a Thursday procedural vote on a “targeted” $300 billion COVID-19 relief package ([link removed]) known as the Delivering Immediate Relief to America’s Families, Schools and Small Businesses Act.

The bill would provide $105 billion in additional funding to schools to help with in-person and remote learning, extend enhanced federal unemployment benefits through the end of the year, replenish funding for small business Paycheck Protection Program loans, and increase funding for vaccine procurement and distribution.

Democratic leadership has indicated that they oppose the narrowly tailored package, as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (R-NY) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called it “emaciated” and continue to call for a $2.2 trillion bill.

** House Dems to Investigate Postmaster General Over Campaign Law Violations
------------------------------------------------------------

House Oversight Committee Chair Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) said they are investigating Postmaster General Louis DeJoy over allegations reported by The Washington Post that he asked employees to donate to GOP campaigns and then reimbursed them through bonuses.

If the allegations are true, they would violate campaign finance law.

"That's an outrageous claim, sir, and I resent it," DeJoy said when asked by Rep. Jim Cooper (D-TN) about paying back executives for donating to Trump's campaign. "The answer is no."
