That’s me! Back then, growing up in a working-class family, I don’t think
anyone looked at me and thought, “that’s Michigan’s future Secretary of
State,” let alone that I would one day be running for governor.

While politics wasn’t a thought on that little girl’s mind, the values
that fuel my fight today were being instilled at an early age.

Ever since I was a student, I knew I wanted to fight for justice and make
a difference. I’m the daughter of two special education teachers — that’s
them in the photo — and at a very young age they taught me everyone
deserves a fair shot in life.

It’s why I started my career in Alabama investigating threats to democracy
and civil rights in the U.S. and abroad.

It’s why I became a law clerk in Detroit, fighting to protect and defend
people’s civil rights and freedoms.

It’s why, as Dean of Wayne State University Law School, I worked to ensure
all students could afford their education by freezing tuition, and
expanding scholarships.

And it’s why, as Secretary of State, I’ve fought to make everyday life
easier for all Michiganders, secure our elections, and expand voter
access.

But I know our work is far from finished.

I’m running for Governor to make sure Michigan is a place where everyone —
from our kids to our seniors — can stay and thrive.

Because I know — thanks to my mom and dad — we are all better when
everyone has a chance to thrive.

But here’s the truth: Michigan is one of the most competitive states in
the entire country, and my opponent is raking in millions from far-right
mega-donors like the DeVos family and special interests.

I’m not relying on the support of big billionaires and corporations,
because I’m not running to represent them — I’m running to fight for you.

I really hate reaching out and asking for money, but if we’re going to win
the kind of future we want, it’s going to take all hands on deck. So, I
