Workers at the Las Palmas grocery store in Beechview were on edge yesterday after immigration enforcement agents came to their block for the second time in 24 hours ([link removed]) .
Joey Berumen, who said he’s the store owner’s son, was keeping a lookout on the street around lunchtime, eyeing both ends of the block for signs of federal agents ([link removed]) . He was involved in a confrontation with a federal agent Tuesday and said he felt agents were trying to intimidate him.
“He said, ‘I’m here, Joey, get out of the way, Joey,’ … There’s no reason to intimidate us. We’re not going to close down. We’re going to stay strong together.”
In other news: Stowe commissioners walked back the township’s federal immigration taskforce agreement ([link removed]) for the second time, following backlash.
