Our ‘Back Your Future’ team has spent the week in the South Island talking to everyday New Zealanders while in COVID-19 Alert Level 2.



Many of them are concerned about their future livelihoods as we contend with the economic effects of lockdown and border closures.



Our team of 5 million have sacrificed to preserve our collective safety and well-being though that has put our economic future at risk.



Other political parties have proposed measures such as cutting the Winter Energy Payment, removing lunch breaks, introducing wealth taxes, or adding new public holidays.



New Zealand First believes that our road to recovery relies on hard WORK.



Our COVID-19 recovery has given us an opportunity to reset our economic settings and invest in the talents and skills of New Zealanders.



This week in Otago and Southland, we announced our support for the very initiatives and institutions that upskill our own and add value to our economy. We will;



Invest in the Hillside Workshops <[link removed]>so that we can build rail wagons in New Zealand again.



Support Prisoner Training programmes <[link removed]>to give them the skills to rejoin society and be productive.



Support Agricultural Training Institutes such as Telford <[link removed]> in Balclutha, to provide a world class workforce in agriculture and apiculture.



While other parties revert back to ideological cuts and silly ideas – New Zealand First will propose what WORKS.

In a visit to the aluminium smelter today, the Rt Hon Winston Peters reassured the workers of Tiwai Point that New Zealand First will back their future.



Tiwai Point will stop being a victim of political deceit coming out of Wellington and shylock power pricing.



We are committed to backing Tiwai Point and will make it a bottom line for any future government negotiations <[link removed]>.
