Do you remember February 7th? Before the lockdowns. Before schools closed. Before bars and restaurants shut their doors. Before we couldn’t gather for church, or concerts, or baseball games. None of us could have imagined that COVID was about to turn our lives upside down.

But Donald Trump knew.

In an on-the-record, taped conversation that was released today, Trump admitted he knew the coronavirus was deadly, highly contagious, airborne, and far worse than the regular flu. On February 7th.

20 days later, on February 27th, Trump told the American people there was nothing to worry about. He said, “it's going to disappear. One day it's like a miracle, it will disappear.”

It’s shocking that the President would blatantly lie to the American people about a deadly virus. It’s shocking that the Commander in Chief of the greatest country in the world, with the best scientists, resources, and infrastructure at his disposal, would fail to put them to use to protect us. We could have acted sooner. We could have saved thousands of lives.

I’m devastated, even though I can’t say I’m surprised. We all knew Trump was a liar. We knew he was dangerous. But Trump did not do this alone. He was enabled at every turn by bootlickers, sycophants, and yes men — people like Ron Wright.

This moral decay is a direct result of putting party, and extreme partisan ideology, before country. Before the American people. To Trump, life - and American lives - are cheap. His lies killed Americans.

Enough. It’s on us to end this. Let’s work together to restore sanity and bring service, accountability, and leadership back to Congress. I’m not scared of Donald Trump.
