for Congress

Friend,

Earlier today, we learned that Donald Trump was fully aware of the dangers of COVID-19 -- specifically, that it was far worse than the flu, and affected young people as well as old -- all the way back in early February. This is, of course, at odds with his repeated claims that COVID-19 was a “hoax,” his assurances that “the Coronavirus is very much under control,” and the in-person rallies he held in multiple states.

Donald Trump lied -- knowingly and callously, to draw applause and to boost the stock market, and as a result, thousands upon thousands of Americans died. People died because our President is a pathological liar, incapable of mustering even an ounce of courage to save American citizens. We know exactly what he was thinking, because he’s openly admitted to it -- he (incorrectly) assumed that the spread of COVID-19 would be confined to cities and was therefore nothing more than a “blue state” problem. He left all of us for dead.

The data is clear -- if we’d acted even just one or two weeks earlier, tens of thousands of lives would have been saved. And if we had a President who trusted science, listened to experts, and put our nation’s safety above his own personal pride, I have no doubt that we would have emerged from this nightmare just like most every other nation in the world. But we don’t have that President -- we have Donald Trump.

There’s no other way to say it -- our Democracy will not survive another four years of Donald Trump and neither will countless Americans if he remains in charge of our nation’s pandemic response. This upcoming election will be the most consequential of our lifetimes, and we need to be ready. Will you sign this pledge today making a commitment to cast your vote and encourage others to do the same?
