Last week, Carolyn released her official Pandemic Recovery Plan [[link removed]] , her vision for helping Southwest Washington recover from the destruction caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. She’s providing the leadership we need to protect families and businesses from the disastrous effects of this crisis. But sadly, we’re not getting that leadership from Washington, D.C.

In a taped interview with journalist Bob Woodward, President Trump admitted in early February that he knew how contagious and deadly the coronavirus was from the beginning, that it was deadlier than the flu, that it even posed a threat to young people – and that he “wanted to play it down.” At the very same time, he was telling the public this was just like the flu and would magically disappear.

With nearly 200,000 American lives lost to this pandemic, the president’s admission makes clear that he neglected the American people and his duty to our country.

And so far, we’ve heard nothing from our opponent, Republican Rep. Jamie Herrera Beutler, who’s said she’s supporting Trump in November’s election.

We don't need silence, we need action.

It’s clearer than ever, John: we need leaders who take this pandemic seriously and are ready and willing to act to save American lives and livelihoods.

Carolyn has a plan to help Southwest Washington rebuild, including an immediate expansion of unemployment benefits for those out of work, more resources for our schools to safely open and operate, investments in local infrastructure to boost our economy and provide good-paying jobs, expand paid sick and family leave, increase the minimum wage, and more.

Unlike Herrera Beutler, Carolyn is ready to actively lead and lift Southwest Washington’s communities up in the aftermath of this historic pandemic and economic crisis. We just have to build the support in these last eight weeks to get her there.
