Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) National President Morton A. Klein released the following statement:
ZOA condemns the antisemitic anti-Israel trade ban imposed by the United Kingdom, France and Canada on all goods produced in the historic, lawful Jewish homelands of Judea and Samaria. The ban additionally targets companies providing services for Jewish communities in Judea/Samaria, including financing, construction, infrastructure, real estate and advertising. This expansive antisemitic ban thus effectively targets banks and other companies throughout Israel and much of the world.
In addition, the UK tightened its despicable arms embargo against Israel. The UK is thereby aiding Islamic Hamas terrorists, Islamic Jihad, Fatah and other Palestinian Arab terrorists that incessantly attack and attempt to murder innocent Israeli Jews. The UK is also thereby saying that it wants Israeli Jews to be unable to defend themselves against Arab terrorists. The UK’s actions to harm Jews and Israel remind us of how, in 1939, the UK’s White Paper slammed shut the doors to what is now Israel – leaving six million Jews to face massacres and annihilation in Europe.
Sickeningly, UK Foreign Secretary Edward Miliband (who, shamefully, is Jewish) attempted to justify the UK’s appeasement of Jew-haters and the well-financed anti-Israel BDS NGOs. Miliband outrageously and falsely called innocent Jews living in the Jewish homeland “settler terrorists” and outrageously and falsely accused Jews of perpetrating “ethnic cleansing.” Meanwhile, the Palestinian Arab population has continued to multiply and perpetrate thousands of terror attacks against innocent Jews each year. In addition, the UK Foreign Secretary announced that the Netherlands, Ireland, Belgium, Spain and Norway have either imposed or are in the process of imposing bans; and gloated that other countries, including Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Poland, Portugal and Sweden have pledged to "support further action." And then, after endangering and economically isolating Jews and Israel, Miliband had the audacity to speak about the need to oppose antisemitism and to host a task force! In fact, in a time of surging, irrational Jew-hatred and Israel-hatred, and increasing Arab/Islamic violence, these egregious UK actions will promote and inspire more attacks against innocent Jews and others.
It is especially shameful and appalling that the UK is condemning Jews living in Judea/Samaria even though the UK’s own Balfour Declaration and international law recognize the legal right for Jews to live in Judea/Samaria and recognize the “historical connection of the Jewish people” to this land, where over 500,000 law-abiding, peace-loving Jews now live.
It is also disgraceful that the UK and others boycott Israel but ignore the PA’s horrific actions and do not boycott the Islamic Palestinian Authority, which pays Arabs lifetime pensions to murder Jews and makes it illegal to sell land to Jews.
ZOA strongly urges U.S. states to strictly enforce their anti-BDS laws and/or executive orders against the UK, France, Canada and any other nation that imposes antisemitic, anti-Israel bans. In addition, ZOA urges the U.S. administration and Congress to use all tools at their disposal to sanction and counteract the UK’s, French, Canadian, and other countries’ bans and embargoes.
