ABOUT THIS EVENT

September 2026 marks the one-year anniversary of the UN High-Level Meeting on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases and the Promotion of Mental Health. Countries are being asked to raise and allocate new funds to meet the funding gap for NCDs while foreign aid is shrinking and domestic resources are being strained. The tobacco control experience shows how budget advocacy, including advocacy for health taxes, can mobilize funding while reducing the burden of disease and its associated costs.

This webinar will explore the four steps described in the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids' Budget Advocacy Toolkit for Tobacco Control: strategic planning, implementation, budget accountability and budget sustainability. Experts from around the world will describe recent successes with tobacco control budget advocacy and financing, the challenges they’ve faced and how those were overcome, and lessons that can be applied across countries and sectors.
